While sitting in my car at the state park I saw Dark-eyed Juncos, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers and a White-breasted Nuthatch but the only thing I could get a clear shot of was a Tree Sparrow.

Nice shot. None of the nicer birds are around here at the moment, but in the summer we do get (along with the usual crows, pigeons and sparrows) blue jays and cardinals in my yard.
I'm happy with it for a sparrow shot but oh how I wish it was a cardinal instead.

Excellent bird shot. I love so many things about it. The exposure, color, and composition are good, love the dof, it shows the environment yet the background remains the background, unobtrusive and allows the bird to pop out. The bird is sharp and his eye is very visible (sometimes hard to do. The branch traveling vertically up camera left and the one he is sitting on frame him! I really like that you are zoomed out enough that it shows the environment. I tend to zoom in (as far as my zoom allowed) for details and miss the big picture. Just curious.... what are you shooting with? Oh and getting it right on the sparrow will help insure you get it right when you finally get your cardinal :)

I ended up liking the wide composition too but if I had more zoom I would have used it.
You're right about the vertical branch. I was thinking about cropping the image tighter but didn't want to lose the framing effect of that branch.
My camera is a Canon 1D. The original version, about 10 years old.
